I am a full-time German to English translator. This blog is my creative outlet to share my knowledge and random musings. Despite the title of my blog, I am generally available for translation work – even if there might be a delay of a few days. You can contact me at gertoeng AT jill-sommer.com.

Hi Jill, this blog was recommended by my interpreter/translation professor. I live in the US and I am new to this field however I have been interpreting for family since at a very young age. Thankfully my interpretation where always on point thanks to the dictionaries we had at home and my family in Mexico are mostly professors, so I was always able to reach out. However, having this as career can be a little intimidating for me since I always worked in finance. I am currently a full-time student working on my Associates but hopefully will be preparing to become certified Spanish/English interpreter. I will take any suggestions to be successful in this amazing career.
Thank you,
I wish I could offer you suggestions, but I have no experience as an interpreter. I suggest you reach out to my friend John (https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-shaklee-7448858). He’s retired now, but he is a force to be reckoned with. He was the first state certified interpreter in Ohio and knows what the field is like much better than I do.
