Mr. Dorough was 94 and played a huge role in my education and that of my contemporaries with his contributions to Schoolhouse Rock, which was a little cartoon series that would play on Saturday mornings among the Saturday morning cartoon line-up. I always loved the grammar ones, but my generation passed American History by singing the Schoolhouse Rock’s Preamble in our heads (written by Mr. Dorough and Tim Yohe in 1976 in honor of our Bicentennial). You could see everyone nodding along and/or mouthing the words to themselves during our test. Conjunction Junction was always one of my favorites, and I still occasionally sing it in my head. Written in 1973 by Mr. Dorough and sung by Terry Morel and Jack Sheldon.
